I took my time to decide whether to go kite-surfing, windsurfing or surfing
at The Lifeboat Station. Miguel had a go at kite-surfing but looked too
overpowered. AndyW was having a go at wndsurfing but looked underpowered
and Shem decided to have a go at surfing in the small but clean surf at the
Lifeboat Station. AndyW ripped his sail, but decided to give it another go
with a smaller sail and Miguel gave up, so I finally decided to go out
windsurfing. I rigged my big kit and got out there.
I was maxed out with my 6.3m and heading up wind most of the time and
hanging on, in the lulls I was just nicely powered up, and once I settle
down a bit, the maxed out moments were enjoyable too. I did a few jumps but
nothing spectacular as maintaining control was top priority. The waves were
pretty vicious, with some head high ones jacking up and trying to slam you
all the time. In the end I stayed out the bacl most of the time and playing
amongst the big swells.
I made some nice gybes on the face of the swell, and some long low jumps on
the wave out. Coming back in was generally a flat out off the wind run so
that I didn't end up too far downwind.
All in all a good session, with plenty of wind and waves. My 5.7m sail may
have been a better choice though.
